Porthole Players announces their fall production and audition call for the musical, OLIVER!

Actors, singers, and dancers of all ages are invited to audition for this musical that will take the Alice Silverman stage on November 21 and run until December 7. Roles for various talent levels are available for men, women, and youth.

Prospective actors are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on Monday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. in the studio theater (black box) of the Newport Performing Arts Center. Details about auditions, examples of the script reading, and musical expectations will be explained.

OLIVER! is a British musical, with music and lyrics by Lionel Bart. Based on Charles Dickens' story, Oliver Twist, it centers on the life of Oliver, an orphan boy who alters his fate when he asks for a second helping of gruel. Well known songs from the musical include 'Food Glorious Food,' 'Where is Love,' 'I'd Do Anything,' 'Consider Yourself,' and 'As Long As He Needs Me.'

Actors will be asked to sing a song from the show, read from the script, and participate in a simple dance audition. There are roles for non-dancers and newcomers are encouraged to audition. Rehearsal schedules will vary according to the role, with children's schedules taken into consideration. Copies of the "OLIVER!" script are available for review at the Newport Performing Arts Center.

Anyone interested in assisting with set construction, costuming or technical assistance is invited to attend the auditions and submit information for future contact.
